Why are WebControls not supported?

Does anyone know why Microsoft Internet Explorer does not currently
support WebControls?

To which webcontrols are you refering?

Generally people refer to webcontrols as the controls in
System.Web.UI.WebControls, such as the Repeater, Button and Label.
Those webcontrols just render HTML/JS, and work fine in most browsers,
including IE and FireFox.

I am refering the the control for multipage, tabstrip, and TreeView.

Well there are alot of 3rd party commersial components all around the
internet that do just what you are talking about. And also i believe
controls like TreeView will be making it into ASP.NET 2.0
