You are currently using Opera version 7 on Windows. Opera 7 is no longer
supported by GazetteNET.com. In order to properly view and use all of our

This upgrade will also allow to you properly view, not only your other

Well, well, well. What is it about Opera that they hate so much? Is it
really such a problem to get things to work on Opera?

Well they do seem to have trouble getting their nasty JavaScript
navigation working with my Opera 7.54. Not surprising really considering
the 485 validation errors that they have on the homepage alone! Some of
which are really basic things like having elements outside of the <html>
container :s

It's my conclusion that the web designer is one of three things:
incompetent, lazy, or a crook. I think that applies to MOST sites, sadly.

Probably a management decision based on ignorance.

Logic: Opera is little used, so spending time on it is not cost-effective.

Failures in this logic: (a) Opera is likely more used that stats indicate,
since Opera by default identifies itself as IE to programmers too
incompetent to properly detect it; and (b) Opera is pretty
standards-compliant, so a failure to work with Opera may result from faults
in today's versions of the other browsers ... so, in the future, pages will
suddenly break with the other browsers when their faults are fixed.

Can't you make Opera spoof itself as another browser? I remember doing
that a long time ago when I used it.

This is the sentence that really annoys me. Opera is an excellent browser.
The only reason why some sites might render badly is because the author
doesn't know the first thing about writing a quality site. The fact that
this particular author recommends IE above Opera makes it even worse.

Yes. By default it spoofs IE 6. It can also spoof three versions of
Mozilla. However, there are at least two ways of detecting Opera (though
one relies on Javascript). Because of this, some still check for Opera and
reject it.

I agree with Neal: incompetent, lazy, or both.

Ah I see. I should have visited the site and note that they were using
JS. ;)
