Leaving my emotional age aside, you have to translate the interval from dog
years into human age equivalents. By that, in twelve years Java has aged
eighty-four years.
As Arne pointed out elsethread, ancient Java libraries can present real risks.
Contempt for 'Vector' isn't just a kneejerk religious reaction; it's a
metonymic expression of an engineering principle. Furthermore, the OP didn't
explain the apparent use of 'Vector' in new code.
The pedagogical motivation to mention 'Vector' in a Usenet post is either
excoriation or to illustrate a point peculiar to 'Vector'. The OP did
neither. He had to know he was pushing a Paleolithic idiom onto the forum,
his disingenuous assumption of offense notwithstanding. I took it as a little
"nudge, nudge, wink, wink" and gladly took on the role of Punch to his Judy.
I reacted in clearly mock horror, as one would in a conversation under such
circumstances.
Stage plays aside, use of ancient idioms requires more justification than "I'm
dealing with old code" as a panacea disclaimer. If the reason is, "**** you,
I'm using 'Vector' because I can," so be it, but there needs to be reason
applied.
One would figure the OP would explain that reason a little, but OTOH if he
really is yanking our chain he will have no reason to.
But rather than go into all that I went for door #3.
