application pool missing from iis6

I am running windows xp pro with iis installed.

I was looking to see what account my web app was running and noticed that i
do not have any application pools. Why? (is this only a feature of windows
server 2003?) I am guessing this is so.

I noticed that in iis , properties of vdir i noticed that the application
protection is the typeical medium/low/high?
Where do i see what account that asp.net 2.0 is running under?

XP Pro comes with IIS 5.1. IIS 6.0 can be installed on Windows Server 2003
only. XP Pro x64 comes with IIS 6.0 though.

What to do developing on XP for ASP.Net 4.0

I am trying to update my website to use ASP.Net, starting with my XP development machine. The app runs in a browser, but fails to build in VS2008. I get an error about 'unrecognized attribute targetFramework.

I've followed all the suggestions about setting app pools etc to use 4.0. But since XP doesn't have app pools, I guess I've gone as far as I can down that road.

But how to get it to build?
