Cannot retrieve web service object in asp.net page

I've created a class in my asp.net application. This class has one function
that returns an object from a web service. When I attempt to retrieve the
object from an asp.net page I get a blue squiggly. However, if I copy the
function to the asp.net page it works fine? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
