I need to know if a web crawler simulates a link or if it redirects to a
link.

Meaning i have a link that looks like this

<a href="#" onclick=redirect(5))>Home</a>


Will a crawler be able to handle this?

Most crawlers would not be smart enough to figure that out. Standard URLs
are safer if crawlability [is that a word?] is high on your list of
requirements.
