Displaying vector images

I am doing a project which involves storing vector images in a database and
displaying them on a canvas.

At the moment I am not very far into the project and want to do some proof
of concepts so I am looking for some help on how I load a vector map into a
canvas.

I would really appreciate it if someone could point me in the right
direction or even give me a code snippet that is a basic example of what I
want to do. I have hunted a bit through the API help but not to much avail
unfortunately.

Also if anyone knows where I can download some vector images of a fair size
(up to one meg. maybe larger) this would also be useful info for me.
