Form Validation! In search of....

VastFear

Greetings!

I am sure this is asked many times....

Are there any DW Extensions available that have really in depth error
trapping for forms? or software to purchase that specializes in forms.

Looking for an all in 1 solution that does credit card/checking/phone
number/zip code/minimal data check etc....

Seems like everything I have seen online is missing features.

It would be nice to have something like the big guys use and show in red
which fields were wrong and force the person to fill the forms out instead
of having a pop up window.

I want something that will make our site look like the big companies out
there.

Thanks!
Erik

Pay the man. Find a programmer willing to do it.

Ay up me owd,

You need to be very careful validating such things as phone numbers and zip
codes. Are you intending to attract an international audience? If that is
the case, then phone number formats are going to be different for each
country. Even within one country it isn't straightforward. Eg. I'm in the
UK, and phone numbers here can take any of the following forms;
xxxx xxx xxxx (cities. 11 digits, 2 spaces. 13 characters total)
xxxxx xxxxx (towns. 10 digits, 1 space. 11 characters total)
xxxxx xxxxxx (some towns and mobiles. 11 digits, 1 space. 12 digits total)
.... and more. And of course, BT will often introduce extra digits at the
drop of a hat because they tell us they are running out of numbers using the
existing formats (my phone number used to be xxxx xxxx, then xxxx xxxxx and
is currently xxxxx xxxxx), although personally I think they are just in
collusion with signwriters and business stationery printers! ;-)

Don't forget also that international users will need to give you the
international version of their phone number. From the UK, this involves
prefixing with +44 and dropping the leading zero from the area code.

You will have similar problems with international Zip/Postal Code formats.

I can personally vouch for the fact that it is bloody frustrating when you
want to sign up for something on (for example) an American site, but can't
get past the form because it refuses to accept your perfectly valid phone
number and/or postal code due to some web dresigner's oh-so-clever
validation script. There goes another customer.
I want something that will make our site look like the big companies
out there.

Take a screen grab of IBM's website, replace the logo, and post it as an
800x600 jpeg on your home page? ;-)

Yer welcome!

Cheers,
Nige

Yeah its for an ISP we only offer service in the USA

I guess all the work is spent on that 1% that will put 1 for the area code
and zip code (laugh)

Personally I wouldn't be concerned about that 1% but... boss thinks its a
good idea :)
