help ViewState problem

Hi, I have a datalist control that I use a UserControl for the header
template. It has a couple of text and selects to do filtering located in the
usercontrol and therefore the header. The viewstate maintains the info in
the usercontrol child controls until I Re-bind the dataList and then db
generated info to the selects get lost and they are empty, can anyone help?
