Does the page perform as it should? If so, then the errors are
meaningles other than to claim you have an errorless page.

There are a few ways to get around using embed, but you end up having
other issues which could effect the functionallity of the Flash.

So if your goal is to make the page work, then use embed. It works.
If your goal is to have a page that has a lesser chance of working, but
validates, then use one of the other methods. (I think someone gave you
a link to the other methods.)

There is no way I can test every browser out there. I'd rather trust code
which conforms to the standards then code which doesn't when it comes to
those browsers I can't test.

The fact that they are using flash at all says they are not concerned
that it is viewable for everyone.

The object element is designed to gracefully degrade.

Flash is a great choice for many things. But one has to understand
that there are a few people for what ever reason, either can't see it
or choose not to see it. If losing this very small percentage of
visitors is acceptable to yor site, then Flash is awesome.

All the popular browsers use object or embed. So while you might get
an error with validation, you can be assured that if you use the
default html that flash creates for you, it will work in 96+% of your
visitors browsers (unless they have it turned off.) That statistic is
from Marcromedia.

Flash is good for =some= things. Think good and hard as to whether it
is good for =your= thing.

One problem with =using= flash, especially inappropriately, is that
doing so helps cement flash into the user base, and that, since flash
domination helps advertisers foist jumpy animations on us, since Flash
canNOT be turned off at the browser level, and most users don't know
(how) to install additional software to defeat this tool for theft of
attention. This is a Bad Thing. It should be considered against
whatever benefit flash brings to your site.

Do you mean this checkbox on my toolbar won't kill Flash? The one

Did that come with the Firefox browser, or is it the result of an
add-on? IE and Netscape don't offer such an option, neither does Mac's
browser (I forgot the name), and until I saw your png I was unaware of
any browser that did, without downloading a separate add-on.

When the browsers in most common use all support the "kill flash"
checkbox, then I'll be happy, because that is what will reduce the value
of flash to advertisers.

It's an extension. http://prefbar.mozdev.org/

"The current version of the PrefBar is 3.2.2, build 20051228. It should
work with Mozilla 1.0 to 1.8a6 and Firefox 1.0+."

I know it works in Firefox on Linux.

Doesn't mention Netscape, but who uses that dinosaur?
