how do i execute ms-dos commands..on command prompts..

hello everyone...
i was wondering...i want to make a small program which execute some
commands on dos prompts...
for example...
i have a jar file called a.jar..and is placed on c drive..
and there is a file called a.txt..
i want to make a program which add the a.txt to the jar file...
updating command is
jar uf a.jar c:/a.txt
by typing above on the command line manually..it works..
but i wanna do it trough a program...
any ideas~~plz~~
