how to use HSSF

i have download two zip file (poi-bin-2.5-final-20040302.zip and
poi-src-2.5-final-20040302.zip) in from
http://www.apache.org/dist/jakarta/poi/ but i don't know how to use
i mean how to make it use to put in as a package of my java program
should i compile all the .java file to .class first or it there any .exe
file to run

There is a Overview.html file in the bin/docs directory.
Since poi has jar files, you should not need to compile.
