iframe onclick or transparent click through?

I need to capture a onclick or onmousedown event on an iframe. Is
there either a way to

1) Attach a onclick or onmousedown event to an iframe
(obj.contentWindow.document.onclick does not work)?
2) Place a transparent object above it like a DIV and capture that
click but allow the click to flow through to the iframe?

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
