Label widths and input boxes

Is there a way to get LABELs to maintain a certain width while being on the
same line as the related input box?

I tried using display: block, which I realize is probably the wrong way to
try to get the results I want. When I did so, it put the input box on the
next line.

Is a form considered "tabular data"? (See W3C example at
http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/interact/forms.html#h-17.9.1)

Please disregard, just found that I needed to add float: left to the style
while keeping display: block.
