loop and timeout

Hi there,

I'm having this question for the last couple days, so much so that I
think it's better for me
to ask for some helps.

I have a file and want to loop through and do something to each line.
I don't want the program stuck at a line forever, so if it takes too
long
it will skip to the next line

Any body kindly enlighten me the way to do it?
