missing doctype

visual studio does not stick in a doc type.

How did they overlook this??

Which item are you creating that doesn't create a doctype and whcih version
of visual studio are you using? If I create a new page it creates a doctype
right after the page registration code. Also, which type of web project are
you finding this in, a Web Site Project or a Web Application Project?

turns out I had deleted the doctype boy am i stupid
