NullReferenceException question

I am using ASP.Net 2.0 and VS2005. When I debug the page I get a
NullReferenceException at the following line;

varControl = row.FindControl("ckMasterFile")

When I run the page normally in IE there is no exception thrown and all code
works perfectly. Can anyone give me help on this? Thank you. The lines of
code are below.

If MultiView1.ActiveViewIndex = 0 Then

Dim row As FormViewRow = fvFileMst.Row

Dim varControl

varControl = row.FindControl("ckMasterFile")

If varControl.Checked = False Then

If Not IsNothing(row) Then

varControl = row.FindControl("ckMasterFile")
