Could some C guru help me? I am looking for a reference - book, URL
that has a
good treatment of pthreads. I am really interested in knowing if there
is a way
to know when a thread releases a lock etc., Any help would be greatly

Try asking in comp.unix.programmer -- standard C does not know
anything about threads. Check whether there is an FAQ for c.u.p
and if yes, try to find your answer there first.
