profile.isanonymous=true in created_user event

This is really bugging me - why is the profile.isAnonymous = true in the
_createduser event.
By default the Createwizards property - logincreateduser is true - even when
i specifically set
this the profile object wont become available in the above event.

All the examples i have seen let you populate profile properties in this
event. and yet if the
user is not auto logged in - no profile is available.

whats going on?
