smartNavigation not working

I want to set focus on the row I am editing on a long data grid. Even
though I have set smartNavigation to true for the document both at
design time and for good measure, at run time as well(on the page load
event), the page still does not scroll down to the row after I click
the edit link button. I have tried setting an anchor and using client
side javascript and the window.scrollTo method. However, even though I
can find the object using client side js, the anchor's x and y
properties are not defined, which may be an artifact of asp.net's
implemtation, I am not sure. Net result is I can't get there from
here.

Anyone have any thoughts?

smartnavigation is problematic it is a well known fact. i suggest you remove
it from code

that solved my problem brilliantly and without the need for microsoft
blackbox magic. He has my everlasting gratitude.
