Temporary Files

Hi,

On some of my servers, I've got a lot of files in the following directory:

c:\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\temp

(where username is the name of the domain user we use to run .net on
the server).

The files are taking up an increasing amount of space and I would
really like to delete them, but I'm not sure why they're there.

Several of the filenames begin "xx" and have an apparently random
short string of characters after them, ie:

xx9
xx9464
xx9465
xx9478

Others are in blocks of the same filename with different extensions,
ie:

xxb8nd4p.0.cs
xxb8nd4p.cmdline
xxb8nd4p.dll
xxb8nd4p.err
xxb8nd4p.out

Does anyone know why these files are being created? Am I able to
delete these files? I really need to, because they're taking up a
substantial amount of space.

Thanks for any help or suggestions you can offer.

Cheers,

Rich

hi RichW
yes you can delete them ofcourse cuz these files are created when you
acces any web sites or run some programs and deleting them would not affect
your pc

Are you absolutely sure? The only reason I'm asking this is because the
servers in question are production internet-facing servers, hosting many
websites, and the files are in the temp directory for the server .net
account that is ultimately running the websites.

If I delete these files, and the server .net account was expecting them
to be there for some reason, then the server/websites would stop working
properly and I'd be in big trouble!!!

Thanks for your help with this,

Rich
