Title Creator freeware sought.

Hello,
I'm looking to design a logo / heading for a page I'm putting
together. Does anyone know of a free web based or freeware logo creator
anywhere? I've Copernic'd a little for something to use but they tend to be
very simplistic or they want to charge for design.

Does anyone have any favourites?

Kindofaneat site, but slower than my grandmother.

Why not just use an image tool yourself such as:
Photoshop
Paint Shop Pro
Gimp

etc...?

Well, I could have. But not being totally conversant with the package I have
( PSPro 6) it would have involved much exploration and fiddling about. But
the web based version gave me something useable in a few clicks. I know I
can do better "in house" as it were. But when you have to look up in
E.Castro's "HTML for the WWW" just to find out how to display a .jpg, I
thought the artistic flair could take a backseat while I got to grips with
actually putting something on the page.

Take a look......

I would say: check out www.webgfx.ch but the site looks like its down right
now while they work on a new version

I looked at your site... a few comments:

The logo up top doesn't look bad... but it is rather big and high.

It looks wider than 800px so that would make it scroll to the right for alot
of people... in a 640x480 browser with a few options/toolbars selected in IE
it would almost make the user have to scroll down to see anything beyond
your logo

The way it looks raised from the background tile doesn't look too bad
either, but thats not the best tile to use for the site... any text over it
(dark or light) is going to bleed into it a little bit and in the long run
it'll be bad on the eyes

What you might look to do is:

- reduce the text size so the logo is maybe 300x100
- build some kind of 'box' with the repeating background tile under it, have
the background tile across the whole page, and then maybe make it 125px high
- incorporate a navigation system into the box, running along the top of the
page, under the logo (try your logo in all 3 positions: center, left and
right to see what works best)
- make the rest of the page white or offwhite with black text... probably 3
columns (left side being your primary content/sub navigation, center being
main content, right side being "extra" content)

Thanks for the tips Augustus. Kind of you to take the time. I will
experiment with your ideas tomorrow. "Watch that space" as it were.......
