I doubt they even care what the public thinks, it is pretty much a done
thing if they are even asking about it since I am not aware of a Windows
PC that does not have IE on it, so they will say "You have IE available,
use it if you want a Copyright", and that is without the repercussions
of non-PC and/or non-IE users.

The USA is a country of principle, and its principles include a belief
in the merits of competition. But it considers such a belief to be
sufficient of itself, and in practice prefers monopoly, provided that it
is an American monopoly. With a monopoly or near-monopoly supplier, no-
one need fear the embarrassment of being detected as a user of what may
be perceived, by their peers, as a second-rate supplier. They are
fundamentally a conformist people, on the whole, minorities apart.
