Why are international characters are passed to java in case of export LANG=en_US.UTF-8

Hi,

from a shell script (RH-8.0) if export LANG=en_US.UTF-8 is set the
parameters containing international characters are wrongly passed to java
main method. Any ideas why?

I use jdk1.4.2_06-b03
