hi maize,

You are writing to a group, what does 'maize' mean?
this is my first mail to this group...

This is not email it is a usenet forum (AKA newsgroup),
messages to forums are usually referred to as 'posts'
or 'messages' to distinguish them from 'mail'..

Generally there are differences how you would write
mail and posts, though you can pick that up as you go.
..and i like to join the group
and plz lead me to join the group.

By making a post, you have already joined this
group (congratulations), nobody could prevent
you from doing so even if they wanted to, (which
is a fine and good thing)
..second, i need some info on how to
prepare to JAVA Programmer's exam ...

Is that the exact title of a Sun Certification?
If not you may need to be more exact.

Do you know Java?
If you do not know Java yet, this is
not the best group to start with. Try instead,
..plz help me.

According to my dictionary, it means corn, or a yellow color :)?

A good analogy would be putting a notice up on a bulletin board and waiting
for someone else to put up another notice responding to your notice (rather
than joining a group). [Although the board is going to get awfully messy
after a while. :)]

You (OP) could also try a search at groups.google.com to search this and
other java groups for queries and responses about good Java tutorials,
intro. books, etc.

But then, a difference is.. Some sneaky person
may *remove* your message from a bulletin board,
whereas the best they can do on usenet is 'plonk'
you, which means they personally do not listen
to your posts. On usenet, no one can *prevent*
you from posting to other people and getting replies.

Yep. Guess I should have said "mediocre analogy" :)

It is a *good* analogy, one difference
does not change that.

If the OP understands a community bulletin
board, they are very close to understanding
the overall nature of Usenet newsgroups..
