Looking for a link validation tool

If anyone out there can help me. I am a webmaster and I manage my
company's corporate website. The site contains about 1000 pages and
one of the biggest challenges that we have is tracking down and fixing
broken links. Can someone recommend a tool that will check for and
report on the validity of our hyperlinks? As a bonus could it also
report if the site/server is down?

All recommendations are appreciated.

Seconded by me, for those who have access to a Windows platform.
Plenty of useful features, and blindingly fast (take care if you have
an anti-abuse firewall, though - it might throw a wobbly, thinking
you've got yourself infected by some mad virus).

Be aware, though, that it uses some underlying MS network software,
which silently fixes-up certain URL errors. Consequently, Xenulink
never sees those errors, and cannot report the associated links as
broken, even though they are.

The one that irks me is when some of our idiot authors put backslashes
into their URLs. MS doesn't seem to let Xenu see the problem - but
"problem" it certainly /is/, for a www-conforming browser (unlike
MSIE).
