Install and configure a webserver on your computer ( one that is capable of
running .Net apps )

starting of XP pro microsoft distributes a webserver with the operating
system that can do exactly that ( free )
so if you have XP pro ( or win 2000 or 2003 ) you can activate the built in
webserver copy your files to the IIS directory and it will work as you
described

Assuming you have IIS, installed (as you'll need for this) then...
When you create a new web application VS2005 gives you the option of
creating it in the File System or with HTTP. You chose File System. For
what you want, you should have chosen HTTP.
