I'd look at SDL (http://www.libsdl.org). I have some headers that
wrapped SDL into C++ classes, but they are very ugly. I wrote them over 4
years ago when I was first learning C++. They still work, but need a
good clean up. If you are interested, you are welcome to them. Just
let me know off the news group.
