GridView - New row?

I'm wondering how to get the New button to work in the GridView? What
event do you trap for this? I've gotten the Edit and Update buttons
to work, but the New button doesn't appear to do anything? Does
anyone have an example of how to use it?

And what if you have no rows initially, but you want the user to be
able to add one? How do you do that?
