Methods & Tools is currently conducting a one-question poll to know at
what stage is the agile approach (XP,Scrum, FDD, ...) adoption at your
location?

Could you please explain more to us about the purpose of your poll and its
relevance to the C language?

Thanks.

It's either a troll or a spammer, and you are posting on usenet for
quite some time mr Heathfield, I thought one does not reply to such
posts..

Well, now you know different, don't you? It is possible, and in this case
not completely unlikely, that the OP is in fact genuine, in which case he
will post a followup.

The *absence* of a followup from the OP within a reasonable timeframe,
therefore, demonstrates to others (who might, for instance, be new to the
group) that this is indeed a troll or a spammer. In other words, it's a
kind of test.

(Of course, there's always someone who lengthens the thread unnecessarily
by wondering out loud why I'm replying to someone who they think is either
a troll or a spammer.)

You're forgetting that the most basic rules of netiquette only apply to
those outside The Clique.

He probably is genuine, in the sense that the article is genuine spam
for a genuine marketing "poll". If by "genuine" you mean he's really
doing research on the subject, I don't think there's much doubt that
he isn't.

(Polls of this kind seem to be a really cheap way to get free
advertising. A toothpaste company can commission a poll to show the
shocking fact that 97% of people don't brush their teeth properly, or
an insurance company that 88% are under-insured, and the BBC will
publish it as news.)
