How to change the property of file type?

When you right click on a file in windows, there is a property of type of
file, which seems to associate this file with an application for it. For
example, when you double click on a .doc file, the microsoft word application
is activiated and open the file.

I have the following question:

When I instored my image files in my computer, the system assign the default
application to files automatically so that whenever I double click any file
of them, this default application starts and try to open my file (of course,
it can not). How can I change the default setting such that my own
application starts and opens my file whenever I doublly click on the file?

Thank you

David

Thank you, Bruce.

It seems that no option is for me to choose (some of them inactive for me).
Perhaps, there is a registered file type .IMG already there.

My purpose is to set my application as defualt application to open my image
files with extension .IMG. My Operating system is Windows 2000 server.
Im my home computer, I can use either Open office or MS Words to open .doc
file by setting default application for it.

In the system help document, there is a guide:
To change the program that opens a file

Open Windows Explorer.
Click the file that you want a different program to open.
On the File menu, click Properties.
Click Change.
Click the name of the program that you want to open the file, or click Other
to select a program that is not listed.

BUt there is no Change button there.
