Sun wants to make sure that you already have J2SE installed and it
will "hook" into that existing installation. I'm fairly certain
the the license terms don't permit someone to merely send a jar
your way. Sorry.

oh no, i am not asking for someone to send me the jar file, i simply
want to get it .. i went to java.sun.com to grab it, expecting an
archive, but instead there was some ELF binary that requires motif that
i was to run. I dont have Motif, and it seems odd that i would have to
do that sort of think to simply get the j2eesdk ... again any ideas
anyone? Any OS X/BSD users who wanted j2ee 1.4?

Sun doesn't supply J2SE or J2EE or anything else for platforms other
than their own, Windows, and Linux. The rest come from appropriate
vendors. Apple bundles J2SE with Mac OS X, but I can't say about J2EE.
Look for it at <http://www.apple.com/java/>.

Oftentimes, the j2ee.jar file is part of the application server.

On Panther systems, if you install the developer tools and select the
application server option, not on by default, you will get:

[shadow:~] work% locate j2ee.jar
/Library/JBoss/3.2/client/jboss-j2ee.jar
/Library/JBoss/3.2/server/deploy-cluster/lib/jboss-j2ee.jar
/Library/JBoss/3.2/server/deploy-standalone/lib/jboss-j2ee.jar
/Library/JBoss/3.2/server/develop/lib/jboss-j2ee.jar

We have our xserve downed at the moment, so I cannot check what is on it.
