Hi, im a n00b at this, but was wondering if i could program something
in J2ME for wireless devices that would be able to access the
phonebook, call numbers etc.

I know there maybe be isssues with regards to different hardware, its
a more general J2ME capabilities question.

Thanks for any help

In general, the answer is no. There is the PIM optional APIs for the
MIDP, but I've not come across a phone yet that supports those APIs. You
can, though, initiate phone calls with MIDP 2.0 devices using the
MIDlet.platformRequest() API.
