I have a perl script based website, need to call another functions from
a java package.

Beyond socket connection or stardard input/ouput, is there any other
more light way to do so?

Inline::Java. Very nice. Uses socket connections behing the scenes, but
hides that complexity from you. As for "light", I don't know what you
mean. Light on memory? Light on marginal CPU? Light on start-up CPU? Light
on latency? Light on programmer time and effort?
