Looking for thumbnail function/control

Hello,

I have some big-size images in al kind of filetypes (*.gif, *.jpg, *.png,
etc. ) that I like to resize.
And if posible I also like to compress these images.

Do you know a good thumnail solution for me?
Do you know where I can find some code/functions or controls?

Not particularly fast but does the job and its easy to use.

Would you then recommend e.g. Managed DirectX for fast imageprocessing? I'm
interested in ways to do this quite fast - possibly with some cropping
features and basic image handling routines like scaling/rotating.

Ive never used the DirectX classes - to be honest Ive never had the need -
but have read some articles in newsgroups saying that they are the
prefferred way of doing the kind of things you are suggesting.

Best advice I can give Im afraid is to look through other posts in
newsgroups and try them both out! Sorry to be so vague!
