modalpopupextender containing usercontrol which does its own postbacks

Ok, I have a modalpopupextender (MPE) with a usercontrol (UC) inside
it. The UC has a multiview with 3 views and a button on each to
procede to the next and finally close the popup. The problem is that
the MPE closes when the first button is clicked in the UC.
I just tried putting the contents of the UC inside a updatepanel w/
it's own script manager.
Thoughts or need more info?
