How do I reduce the size of web pages with jpg images on them? see my page

Thanks. (e-mail address removed)

Wow! While probably the *easiest* way for the relative newbie to turn a
printed page into a web page, it is certainly not the best.

possible solutions...

BEST:
Take all information out, put in an HTML table as text-only.

OR

Install a calendar CMS tool. Use that to create your web calendars.

These are text-based solutions!

Another-solution-but-still-not-really-a-good-idea:
Shrink the image a lot in an image manipulation program. NOT using
"width=" and "height=" tags in the browser!!!!! USe Photoshop, Paint Shop
Pro, IrfanView, iPhoto, Gimp, or other similar program. (Note I gave
examples that will cover what is availble on most major OSes).

Hah! I see you put in ALT text of "PLEASE WAIT WHILE..." Good idea, but
not really a solution, now, is it?

That is one thing an image is not appropriate for.
Design a simple table of 4 or 5 rows and 7 columns.
Then insert your text as desired.

The problem with an image for a calendar is resolution.
Where it may look fine on YOUR screen, how will others see it?
Since the page has to load an image of relative size, it would take 10 times
less time to load a table and pure text.

You could also take a look at various calendar making scripts and use them.

If you insist on using an image, at least compress it.
At 70% compression, the file size won't be quite as huge as it is now.
Also, downsize a bit.

A free image editor that will reduce the physical size and compress it.

Agreed a B&W gif would be only 2 bits a pixel as opposed to 24 bits for a
jpg

No. True B&W is one bit per pixel, but in the case of GIF, then LZW
compressed to go even smaller.

Sheesh. Using HTML and a GIF you could probably get that down to about
20k. http://members.cox.net/dansked/currentschedule.jpg - very bad.

Converting to a 2 colour GIF I get 95KB. As a 2 colour PNG, 72KB. But it
looks rubbish. A 16 colour PNG looks nicer, but weighs in at 227K.

Keeping it as a JPEG, but reducing quality, I can get it down to 141KB
before it starts to look too crappy. I've created a 128KB DjVu file which
looks better than that, but viewing DjVu in most browsers requires a
plug-in.

Thanks for the response. Irfanview works well in reducing the jpg files.
There is no doubt that my method of creating these calendars is not the most
efficient but I use Printmaster Gold to create the calendar and then save it
in jpg format. Thanks again!
