Scheduled events and how to check connection using Ruby?

Hi,
I run a PC desktop with Win XP SP1 and an application that allows remote
desktop access. I would like to check if someone is connected to my PC
before I perform a scheudled shutdown. So, question is, how do u check
if someone is connected to your machine using Ruby? And how do u perform
scheudled shutdown with Ruby? Are these possible? Thanks for any idea!
