templating menu?

D

D E

Here's the situation. I want the same menu to appear on every page on top.
But if i decide to change the menu itself, i don't want to have to go to
EVERY page and change the menu so it remains constant.

Is there a way, using straight html/javascript/css (NO PROPRIETARY SOLUTIONS
PLS :) ) to do this, like create a template or something?

Thanks so much..

You can create a template, but you will still be cutting and pasting,
ultimately. This is one reason why people resort to ASP (and the other is
virtual shopping carts / general database applications).

I think what you are looking for is SSI (Server Side Include) to place
the template or whatever you have into the pages, and let you edit just
one text file for it ...when you make changes to it...

See SSI on the Menu on this page for more info:

Search google for SSI. you will be rewarded with thousands of results.

You can download my preprocessor programs at:

if you can install Perl on your home machine.
It's not fancy, but has the advantage of being simple
to use -- especially the 'mcat' program in it.

Look for a cgi script called psinclude.cgi. It will let you put custom headers
and footers in your web pages without renaming every page from htm to shtml

I prefer his method of top posting. I can go right to the author's
comment and read them without having to scroll through a message, and
then if I want I can scroll down to see the preceding messages.

Bottom posting means I have to scroll down every message to find what
has been added.

There are a lot of idiots out there who think that there is some rule that says
you must bottom post.
I have been online since 1981 - long before the internet even existed - and it
has always been top posting.

I read a few newsgroups where top-posting isn't worried about. Usually
they're about some computer game or some silly thing. This ng, though,
expects more formal posting. eel free to buck the system and whine about
it, but expect your posts to be ignored for the most part.

That's why you should also snip quotes to the bare minimum. Bye.

The internet's been knocking about in one form or another since the 60s.

No loss. If you don't like the way I post don't ask your mommy to read my
messages to you again.
