How is my site? Please leave a little time for a few pages to load.
Especially the java page it takes about 10-20 seconds.

The password and username is guest

Please keep in mind that I'm telling you this from both a basic security
standing point and a web designer's standing point.

If you're just using Java for all those effects, you're much better off
doing them in Flash. Less time to load and much smoother animation.

Took me about 10 seconds to figure out all the usernames and passwords,
though. I wouldn't exactly call it secure, even if you're "dodging it" by
putting them in a seperate file.
Username: password:
"chriz" "password"
"jake" "socks"
"cheese" "buttie"
"guest" "guest"

And they all lead to the same page; "new.htm". I found out all that without
even "logging in".

The e-mail buttom using a mailto: as the action is also a bad idea. Not all
browsers and/or e-mail clients support this method.

Once I "log in" (which is basically useless, considering what you can
access), the colors went from "fair enough" to "yuck!" in no time.

Just by the look of your site, I'll take a quick guess and say that you
started learning HTML and JavaScript - you're using every beginner's
mistakes by using almost every useless effect available in tutorials and
script archives everywhere.

No biggie. You live, you learn from your mistakes, you move on. That's life,
even for starting web designers.

I really hope you're not colorblind; the look of the site could use a
touch-up. Just play around with colors that look good together. Big emphasis
on "good". They have to match, not just be random. You can find a handful of
tools that can help you with color matching. Google for it. Google is your
friend.

If you plan on using a system where people need to log in, consider
switching to a web host that allows for server-side scripting (such as PHP
or Perl - those are the common programming languages). Browser-side
scripting solutions (such as JavaScript and VBscript) are easy to penetrate
and get around. Some of your visitors don't even have access to Java and
JavaScript (or have disabled them).

And don't feel down - every web designer has made a crappy site to begin
with. You learn to live with them, look back and remember what you should do
and shouldn't do. Heck, even I had a crappy site to begin with (back in '96
or '97), but that one's lost to the "low on disk space" indicators and has
passed on to the heaven of website archiving by now.

Don't be afraid to ask, though. You learn from other people's mistakes and
experiences as well. We'll get you on the right path eventually. ;)

hey, we've all got to start somewhere. give the kid a break
the site is a kind of wonder.

I did give him/her a break! I gave a really good grade if it is a young
kid! No word on the OP's age, though....

How old are you, "chriz"??

Pretty simple solution. Don't post then, that will teach them a
lesson......

Their web interface looks quite practical, and there's nothing wrong
with accessing the Usenet via a web interface. It could be a good site,
were it not for the fact that they seem to cloak the fact that they are
not really a forum. The problem with the site is simply that it isn't up
front about the fact that it is merely a web interface for Usenet
content. That's the rub. There are web forums, there is the Usenet, and
there are web interfaces for the Usenet. Users shouldn't be made to
believe that they are posting to a web forum when they are in reality
posting to the Usenet.
