WebParts without SharePoint

Hello,

Most of the activity that I have seen in newsgroups regarding WebParts refers to SharePoint as well.

Are there compelling reasons to avoid using WebParts without SharePoint?

In my view, Web parts are too hard to build without solid graphical
designers. I think that's why many of us don't spend the time on them.

No and there are some good examples in last MSDN tour DVD. I think they are
a bit easier to manage in SharePoint, but there is no reason not to use them
in a standard ASP.NET application. And, they are not all that hard to pick
up.
