Where does metadata gets stored in assemblies?

As per my knowledge i come to know that when we compile source code
assembly get created created at <Drive>:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET
\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files (VS2005) Location...
Assembly has Metadata and MSIL code... When you view assembly throgh
disassembler(ildasm.exe) where you can see only MANIFEST and
corresponding MSIL code in that. Here my question is, where does
metadata gets stored, I want to see the metadata in ildasm tool, can
any body please help me?
