Which hosting for ASP.NET

M

Marko

I need some good hosting. I found www.webhost4life.com and I was been very
happy because they give a lot of features very cheap. But I have read many
bad things about this hosting, so I need some better, but not very expensive
like http://www.hostinguk.net.
I need some hosting with .NET 2.0, SQL Server 2000/2005/expres, Access,
Unlimited bandwith and mutiple domains on one account. Which hosting is good
for me?

Thanks

This probably isn't very relevant to this newsgroup, but I have to ask,
what bad have you heard about webhosting4life? I'm considering them for
a project that I've been working on. A friend of mine recommends them
highly and has had no complaints. Just curious what you've found bad
about them.

I used webhostforlife until about 1 1/2 years ago when I got tired of my
sites taking forever to load. Their performance was just unusable. Sure, I
would complain and they would move me to a faster server, but it was just a
matter of time before it too was unusable.

I think the ultimate problem with WH4L is that they advertise what you "say"
you want. The problem is you want to have your cake and eat it too. Who
wouldn't? I did. However, you don't really want an inexpensive shared web
hosting with unlimited bandwidth like WH4L has. What you really want is an
inexpensive shared hosting where you and you alone have unlimited bandwidth,
and that just doesn't exist. Unlimited bandwidth sounds good until your site
crawls because its sharing a server with some bandwidth-hog site.

I recommend you evaluate if you really need "unlimited bandwidth". Of
course that is what I initially wanted. But once you realize that means a
free-for-all on the shared server, perhaps some limits are good. ;-)

I decided I didn't need unlimited bandwidth after all. Since then, I have
been much happier with the hosts I use. I am currently using two:

http://www.powerdnn.com
http://www.websecurestores.com

I think I personally prefer the better service I get from hungrier/smaller
hosting companies. Good luck.

I've used dotnetpark(.com) and haven't had any issues. I like their webpage
for mananement.
And they're fast with replies ... Usually < 1/2 business day.

www.crystaltech.com is superb. Professional and knowledgable tech support, outstanding
web hosting.

I've heard good things about GoDaddy's web hosting, but I have no firsthand experience.

Stay away from Hostcentric at all costs. They are terrible in every category.

WebHost4Life has recently upgraded or acquired new database servers I
understand.
I've been satisfied with WebHost4Life but then again I have no ASP.NET
applications running yet.

I was tempted this year to try DiscountASP [1] but I don't have the revenue
to pay their fees.
If you want to go with a costly but tried and true used by many well known
developer sites you can go to Orcsweb [2]

I happen to be very happy with discountasp.net. Great service, great
support. Granted I have limited needs, but still.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks Mark.
That's what I've heard too...

Hostcentric had a shared email server crash. It had two days of my email on it, and they
told me it was lost (most web host companies back up at least one week of email.
CrystalTech keeps three weeks).

After I cancelled Hostcentric, they kept charging me a $2.50/month "service fee". After
six months of demands that they stop charging me, I had to go to my credit card company
to get them to stop.

Hostcentric's webhosting is a joke.

Not me. In fact, I've heard horrible things about GoDaddy. For
example, many, many people have had their sites shut down *without*
warning because GoDaddy believed they were taking up too many resources
from the shared system.

That's totally unacceptable in my books.
