Nice list! So I got to ask you....which is your favorite?

Thanks,

I see. The FTP aspect is ok, but yes it has limitations. I use WSFTP for
anything major, but for a quick update to a site CE works for me.

dirt and a pointy stick

I love it! I prefer a stone tablet and chisel myself. LOL! However, you have to be careful with
dirt. After you're done coding in the dirt, make sure you drag your foot over thoroughly; otherwise,
somebody will take a digital picture of it and steal your source code--just a tip ; )

Best regards,

Todd

I'm using Netscape Composer 7.1, and there are plenty of things that are
driving me crazy -- like, the program decides automatically whether a
URL is relative or not, and if you don't watch it every minute, it can
disrupt your entire directory tree.
However, it does have a built in text editing capability, so if you want
to insert scripts or styles, or clean up them damned links, you can do
it there.
I have it because I like Netscape's email/newsgroups program (Outlook
sux.). I hate the browser, though. Half the time I click on a link in
my mail, I end up having to copy the link and use IE instead, especially
if the page involves Javascript.
However, the price is right -- download the whole ball of wax for
nothing at Netscape.com.

Better yet, Mozilla: what NS is built around, without the AOL crap NS adds;
and the latest version (NS is behind the Moz release cycle). And you can
also get it without the mail/news bolt-on.

Also configurable. Sounds like you might have javascript off.
Personally, that's the way I like it. And I don't bother looking at
those pages that I'd have to switch settings or browsers.

I can't find the commands to turn javascript on. However, the
preference dialog is cut off so that I can't read most of it. If the
javascript switch is anywhere to the far right of the dialog, I can't
get to it.

Another strike against Netscape Navigator. :-/

Bummer they no longer have a free product (wsftp) A good free
alternate is Internet explorer. type in the FTP address, and you have
drag and drop capabilities as well as the ability to edit text files
on the server. (yea, it downloads it first, but you don't have to
manually do anything)

javascript {turn:eek:n; volume:high; repeat:none;}

The problem was with getting Netscape to properly display (other
people's) pages containing javascript, not writing javascript.

Actually, I later found the command in the browser's Option dialog. I
was not where I would have expected it to be.

My javascript plugin for Netscape IS turned on. It just doesn't work.

Jason,
Has anyone mentioned HTML-Kit? Check it out at www.chami.com. It's
an excellent text-based html editor that has tons of built-in snippets
of code. By using plug-ins it also provides coding assistance with
CSS, Javascript, etc.
Good luck!

You need the umbrella plugin for wet weather. For larger
projects, look into the marquee plugin.

Still might fail if you forget to set it to wrap long lines.

What about scrolling when the marquee-floor's full?

At this stage you have to buy a second copy of marquee. I believe
scrolling will be in the next version, due out around Christmas.

Get modern, install at least Mozilla 1.6. the NS series is not being
updated any longer. Moz has an HTML compozer also, maybe NS's.

I use NS 4.78 for e-mail/NGs, Mozilla for browsing and Optool for making
e-mail/ng URL links use Mozilla's browser. It's a personal thingie.

You could use NS 7 for e-mail if you wish, and Optool to redirect links
to Mozilla. Makes my head spin thinking about it, but it's doable.
Of course, it sounds ike you been there and done that. Good Luck!)

I went there and got confused. Found no way to d/l the program.
What did I miss? Mozilla didn't like the RSS, but revealed the
source code anyway,
"This XML file does not appear to have any style information
associated with it. The document tree is shown below." ????

Currently I use Arachnophilia V4. There's a later version out,
but I just can't understand it enough to get it to work. ???

Maybe I'm getting too old and too dumb to continue in this
business? ;-) (Sheeze, I can't believe I'm 75 and have been
retired for some 20 years!)

V5.2 @ http://www.arachnoid.com/arachnophilia/index.html Freeware.
