No offense, but it's a fact that it's the easiest and cheapest OO platform
in terms of TCO. You can find information on this from Experts Exchange, or
even Wired. What other options are your friends considering besides .net?

They want to go with visual c++ 6.0
they are tyring to make sure that end distribution is less than 1.5 mb and
that users do not have to download dot net framework to use the software.
Currentely, i think i am right, that you have to have dot net framework
installed on your computer to run any software develope in dot net
enviornment.

I tried to argue that eventually everyone will have to download dot net if
they use windows. But they do not want to force the users to download dot
net framework,

please help
thanks

Hi RJ,

Here's an article:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/productinfo/roadmap.aspx

Support Lifecycle:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;lifecycle&ln=en-us&x=11&y=5

Support for VC++
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[ln];LifeAn11Key Dates:
a.. Mainstream support for Visual C++ has been extended by one year and
will end on September 30, 2004.
b.. Extended support is available from October 1, 2004 through September
30, 2005.
Details:
Microsoft is extending the Mainstream support phase for Visual C++ 6.0 by
one year to September 30, 2004. Extended support for this product still ends
on September 30, 2005.

Microsoft has decided to offer an extra year of Mainstream support for
Visual C++ 6.0 so that customers have additional time to take advantage of
the benefits made available to them during the Mainstream phase. This will
enable those customers still in possession of unused no-charge Visual C++
support incidents to use them before September 30, 2004, as opposed to
October 1, 2003
