Presumably, you mean that you want to connect a scanner to a client machine,
scan a document and then upload it onto a webserver...?

Generally speaking, for security reasons browsers do not have any way of
accessing the hardware resources of the computer on which they are running,
so your only realistic option is to use the software which came with the
scanner to scan the document and save it to the local hard disk. Then, fire
up your web browser and upload the scanned document.

If this is an entirely enclosed intranet, you *might* be able to write an
ActiveX control to do the scanning from a web page, but you would need to
ramp your security right down...

You'd need to embed an ActiveX control or a similar thick client into the
web page since standard JavaScript does not have access to hardware for
security reasons.
