Commercial Java Projects

Hi,

Are there any commercial projects that I could get involved
with/profit from in my free time? Is there a site for collaboration of
commercial projects?

Thanks

What you basically want is to get involved into projects as independant
person.
I'm not certain about the law in your country, but you should register
your self as a company.
You're quite free to do with your time what you want, but you don't have
the advantages (social security, your boss who is responsible for your
actions, worry if you have still have projects and work next week) from
working at a company.

How might that work? Who would decide on your remuneration and how
would they value it? How would you prevent a contributor to the source
code, who therefore had access to it, producing a version which they
sold for personal profit? In other words, how would this differ from
the current model of finding a job as an employee or a contractor?

Not seen any collaboration ones, I'm sure they exist, but for whole projects
yes, quite a few, eg:

If you look at a project with a fair few bids, the bids are detailed, you
can see what you are up against. Most are companies and/or with plenty of
experience.

Try www.rentacoder.com They have thousands of projects.
I hire from there a lot!

Tell them "Markis" sent you.

You know, I like this site a lot, but there's really a problem
with the standard of living in the various countries, where those
coders come from. It's really hard to compete with someone from
India of the former soviet republics, who could make a living from
50$ a month.
What are your experiences with those coders so far?
What I've in mind is a concept, that would merge some rentacoder
features with the asynchrony.com and Sourceforge.com concept.

Ciao,
Andreas

I am working on a project where two of the other programmers are
Russian. The boss says he has worked with them before, and he is
quite happy with them.

Check out http://mindprod.com/jgloss/jet.html

This is a group Russians in Novsibirsk working on a native compiler.
They put American companies to shame with the excellent support.
