Does mastodon use ruby?

Any heard of mastodon? It's becoming fairly popular.

I read on the wikipedia "Its server-side technology is powered by Ruby on Rails and Node.js, and its front end is written in React.js and Redux"

If i want to modify it what would be the best way going forward? Learning react.js and redux first?
