How to find out which button caused the onbeforeunload event?

Dear All,
I have an aspx page that has some submit buttons. I would like to
do some special processing on one of the button clicks...but
window.event.srcElement.tagName reurns me null and does not display
the button that caused the unload event. How do I find which button
caused the unload event?
