Is it just me or is this google groups forum slower?

I have high speed internet on a fairly fast machine, but the time to
load messages seems much longer with latest changes on google groups.
Also increased ads on the right make the messages much more difficult
to read.

Nothing against javascript or Ajax, but Is there a way to turn off
all these silly features?
Anyone know of a another (faster?) site that indexes these posts?

I actually just came across this whilst scouring the web to see if RobG had a website.

http://www.developersdex.com/asp/default.asp?p=2978

The "grid view" may be more appropriate.

I do not use Google groups unless I am away from the home (which is rare since my
accident), but I thought I noticed a bit of a problem with Comcast newsgroups lately. I
constantly get server unavailable or TCP/IP connection reset and whatnot. Sometimes the
threads just load sloooow.

I think I liked it better when Comcast used Giganews.

It's nice to see they have Javascript - comp.lang.javascript
specifically - listed under the ASP banner.

You may try using Thunderbird with Comcast instead of OE. I used Comcast
for about 4 years and with Thunderbird I never had a problem. That was
before and after they switched from Giganews. Now I have a personal
Giganews account.

Is Comcast still using it's own servers or have they gone back to an
outside source?

Was that sarcasm? If not, why is it nice they have it listed under ASP? I wondered that
actually. Thougth it might have something to do with JScript, ASP, Microsoft scripting
technologies... something like that.

Noted. I am downloading right now...

Yeah, they are. newsgroups.comcast.net in Philadelphia, PA (so sayeth Sam Spade).

Maybe, I see it as criticism - the inappropriate categorisation of
javascript as a subheading of ASP shows the site is more interested in
buzz-words and putting ad banners under your nose than genuine
assistance for developers. They don't seem to provide any kind of
useful tree or threaded view of messages.

I'm not fan of the Google Groups browser UI, however I rate it much
better than Developers Dex. Incidentally, the web UI is very
important when you're at a site that doesn't have access to a news
server.

Yes. Completely.

Anybody that will list a client side language under a server side
heading is - well - an idiot (to say the least).
Yeah, they are. newsgroups.comcast.net in Philadelphia, PA (so sayeth Sam Spade).

I was in Florida and that seems to be the same server I was using so
maybe Thunderbird can help with it.
